Proxim: Tsunami MP.11 5054-R and Video Applications
The advances in digital video coding have resulted in a trend from closed circuit surveillance video systems, to that of surveillance video systems over Ethernet data networks. Since many of these networks utilize Wireless LAN (WLAN) technology to serve mobile clients within the enterprise, it was only a matter of time until wireless surveillance cameras utilizing WLAN standard connectivity became available. Today, people are deploying both "wired" and "unwired" digital surveillance cameras on their corporate networks for different purposes.
Just as wireless technology has enabled people to take their "desktop" with them to meetings within the corporate environment, it has also provided a means of connecting remote locations where right-of-way technologies like wire, fiber, and cable are not feasible. This is especially true in the world of surveillance video, where camera locations may need to be installed temporarily for major events, or where power and communications infrastructure do not exist.
The Tsunami 5054-R and 2454-R product family from Proxim Wireless can provide the wireless connectivity needed to rapidly deploy communications infrastructure for data, voice, and video applications. In order to provide the reader with valuable information regarding the potential solution set these products represent, this paper will document the actual performance of the equipment, as well as its suitability for supporting surveillance video applications.
