Some notes about coordinates:
Latitude and longitude coordinates should be measured with a hand-held GPS
unit, or taken from a USGS topographical map with a positional error of less
than 50 feet. Measuring coordinates to less than 50 feet is possible with
handheld units with adequate view of the satellite constellation. If
complications arise, it may be necessary to use a more sophisticated location
device (survey grade GPS).
A datum is a reference, or standard, used as the basis for taking geographical
measurements. The usual datum is the North American Datum #83 (NAD83); however,
there are others. A hand-held unit will specify the datum it's using in its
set-up menu; topographical maps will show the datum at the bottom of the map.
Be sure to specify the datum used when listing the latitude and longitude
figures in this form.
The reason accuracy and datum (reference) is important is so that potential
interference can be accurately predicted for the proposed path.
