RAD Cellular Backhaul Products

Cellular backhaul is one of the major contributors to the high cost of building out and running a mobile network. This is true whether the mobile operator owns the transport links or leases lines from a local carrier. Demand for transmission bandwidth has been increasing steadily the past few years with the roll-out of bandwidth-hungry data applications and the recent deployment of generation-straddling technologies such as GPRS and EDGE. Now, with the massive launch of UMTS and CDMA-2000-based services on the verge of becoming reality, the issue of controlling cellular backhaul costs has taken center stage. For this reason, mobile network planners are actively reviewing their network architecture for transport of 2G and 3G services.

RAD offers mobile network operators a wide range of products supporting current and future backhaul network interfaces, protocols and technologies: TDM, ATM, Ethernet, IP, and MPLS. RAD products enable traffic aggregation, compression of voice on MSC and BSC trunks, optimization of A-bis and A-ter protocols, and pseudo-wire transport of TDM and ATM over a PSN with advanced clock recovery mechanisms, ensuring QoS.
