You have had positive experience with excellent video quality of ACM-series and TCM-series cameras in the past few years and ACTi is thankful for your continuous support. Today ACTi is proud to introduce the new KCM-series cameras that combine two excellent specifications: Zoom lens with auto focus and 4 Megapixel sensor.
It is also important to know that with the newly designed ACTi Image Signal Processor (ISP) the video quality is the better then ever, the effect of which is especially obvious in the low light conditions where the CMOS cameras from other manufactures are having difficulties with video quality.
Optical Zoom with Auto Focus
There are so many possible surveillance scenarios with only one main region of interest that requires close-up view when suspicious activity has been detected. For example, the main entrance of a department store across from a public square is a typical region of interest - when the general view is needed, the camera would be in zoom-out mode and when the entrance view is needed then the camera would zoom-in instantly.
It can also be the opposite - keep close look at the entrance during normal mode. Whenever a suspicious person who you wishes to trace leaves the building, you can simply zoom out to see the whole area around the building.
The Event Handler system in ACTi cameras can even make the whole process automatic - you can define preset zoom positions (zoom-in position and zoom-out position) in the camera system and then switch between these positions automatically when motion in the specified region is detected by a camera using Event Handler system.
No manual focus adjustment is needed during the zoom process - it is all done automatically by the camera.
Compared to traditional PTZ cameras, the zoom camera is so much more budget friendly, but does just as good a job in the scenes with clearly defined region of interest, such as doors, parking lot entrances, valuable exhibition items, etc.
Optical zoom is available in box cameras KCM-5211 (18x), KCM-5311 (35x) and in dome camera KCM-7211 (4x) cameras.
4 Megapixel Resolution
The higher the resolution is the more details can be captured by the sensor board. The user can zoom in digitally later on either while doing live view or doing the playback of recordings.
It is also interesting to notice that with the growth of high megapixel resolution sensors the popularity of fixed wide angle lenses is growing - instead of buying a camera with a vari-focal lens to adapt it for different scenarios, it is now possible to keep simply a widest possible viewing angle and zoom in digitally, by which you can achieve the same effect as adjusting the vari-focal lens into telephoto (zoom-in) position while keeping the video evidence of the surrounding area at the same time as well.
However, there are still scenes that might need close look-ups optically and for those scenes the zoom lens is recommended instead of a vari-focal lens due to its higher flexibility.
4 Megapixel resolution (2032x1920) is available in KCM-5211 and KCM-7211 cameras.
4 Cropped VGA Regions
The 4 Megapixel resolution ACTi cameras come with a special feature - you can define four regions of interests on the view and crop those 4 regions into individual streaming channels - this gives the effect of having 4 cameras instead of one. Those 4 regions can be positioned freely and may even be overlapping. Each region size is 640x480 pixels. The additional benefit of this solution is that it also acts like a privacy mask - while defining the exact regions for capturing video, the areas which you want to avoid will be excluded. This function is available in KCM-5211 and KCM-7211.
Auto Iris
There are two kinds of auto irises in modern ACTi cameras - DC iris and P-iris. While they look very similar to each other from the outside, they are still quite different. P-iris uses a stepping motor that allows the iris size to be controlled with very high precision. For example, it is possible to have a very small iris size using stepping motor, resulting with properly exposed image under extremely bright sunlight. Also, it increases the depth of field (focusable area) in such cases. DC iris is available in KCM-5211 and KCM-5311. P-iris is available in KCM-7211.
Backlight Compensation
When cameras look out from indoors, they may face bright backgrounds. This may result in underexposed objects (people) in the foreground. Backlight Compensation (BLC) will detect the underexposed areas and adjust the image to make faces visible. BLC is available in KCM-5211, KCM-5311 and KCM-7211.
Day & Night
All the KCM-series cameras are able to conduct the video surveillance 24 hours a day - colored video in daytime and black/white video in night time. BSI sensors used in KCM-series cameras are able to capture 30% more light compared to traditional CMOS sensors, resulting in excellent night video quality.
Extended Temperature
The box cameras KCM-5211 and KCM-5311 can be placed into outdoor housings by which the temperature range will be -30C to +50C (-22F to +122F). The dome camera KCM-7211 does not require any housing - its working temperature is -20C to +50C (-4F to +122F).
Weatherproof (IP66)
The housings available for KCM-5211 and KCM-5311 are not only for increasing the temperature range - they also protect the camera from dust and water, rated as IP66. The dome camera KCM-7211 already has the IP66 rating and does not need additional housing for outdoor solution.
Vandal Proof
ACTi outdoor dome cameras are vandal proof. The cameras won't break even when driven over by a car. KCM-7211 comes with vandal proof casing.
