Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS)

There are two types of spread spectrum radios, DSSS and frequency-hopping spread spectrum. In DSSS, the data signal is combined with a higher data rate bit sequence, or chipping code, at the sending station. This then divides the data according to the spreading ration. The chipping code increases the signal's resistance to interference because of its redundant bit pattern for each bit transmitted. Thanks to the redundancy of the transmission, if one or more bits are damaged, the original data can be recovered.
